Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed

Activities

The AWANA program at Calvary is fun, exciting, and full of learning about Jesus. Each week we salute our American flag, Christian flag, and Bible. We sing songs and the children learn songs that some of them have never heard. We have discussions about who God is, what He has done and what He will continue to do. Each child has a book that they go though to learn stories, look up Bible passages to answer questions, and learn memory verses. They are awarded an AWANA buck each time they attend. They also earn AWANA bucks each time they learn and can quote a memory verse. We have theme nights; such as crazy hair night, inside out night etc. Each time they participate in one of these they earn an extra AWANA buck. If their teacher participates they earn one for them too. That means on a given night they would earn 3 AWANA bucks just for being here.  At the end of the AWANA year they will be able to go shopping in the AWANA Store. They will have many items to purchase with the AWANA bucks they have saved. It is always so interesting and exciting to see their faces when they realize how much money they have that they can go shopping with. Even though the AWANA bucks are a fun way to motivate the children to participate, it is not our main focus. Our main focus is to teach children to know more about Jesus and what it means to be a Christian. Yes we have fun, but they are also learning.

Some nights we do a craft that is geared around and the holiday that might be close. If we do not do a craft we play games. Our games are geared around working as a team and playing with different children and ages that they would not normally play with. We strive to do our best to incorporate togetherness and love for all, just like Jesus show His love for all. We have wonderful adult teachers that are more than willing to help these children to not only have fun, but to learn what God is all about.
